My husband forced me on holiday and now won’t let me return – help!

This week in my column in The National newspaper, I answer a reader who says her husband urged her to visit her family and now says he cannot pay for her return due to debt. The reader believes he is trying to avoid paying for her expenses. I advise the woman she has the right to return to the UAE and file a case against her husband, who has legal obligations to pay for her expenses such as food, clothing and accommodation. The woman is also eligible for up to three years of backdated expenses and can appeal to the court to have her husband cover her legal fees.
